Abby Abramson (RHP) – Cheshire Softball
The senior pitched in both games of an SCC Semifinal/Final doubleheader Saturday. The result: a shutout AND a no-hitter. In the finals victory over Guilford, Abramson walked six and struck out 13–allowing no hits in an 8-0 win. She also had a two-run single in the game. The Rams beat Amity Regional that morning 10-0. Abramson struck out eight and walked three, allowing no runs. Abramson is SCC player of the year and named most outstanding player of the SCC tournament.
Alexa Bacoulis (2B) – Masuk-Monroe Softball
The junior’s milestone 100th hit of her high school career pushed the Panthers to a Southwest Conference championship. Masuk edged Pomperaug Regional, 5-4, on Alexa’s walk-off RBI double. Bacoulis enters the state tournament with a .375 batting average and 28 RBI.
Chris Brown (A) – Fairfield Prep Boys Lacrosse
The senior notched a point in nine of Prep’s 12 goals Thursday—collecting four goals and five assists to lead Prep to a 12-8 Southern Connecticut Conference championship victory over Cheshire. The Jesuits are back-to-back SCC champions (13th overall).
Tucker Garrity (A) – Newtown Boys Lacrosse
The sophomore scored two of Newtown’s 13 goals Saturday. And those were the most important—a game-tying strike with five seconds left in regulation and an overtime-winner. The Nighthawks eliminated Fairfield Warde 13-12, in a CIAC Class LL qualifying round match-up.
Karlie Rowe (A) – East Lyme Girls Lacrosse
The junior attacker has 76 goals in 2017. Her 10 goals scored on Saturday propelled the Vikings to a 16-5 victory in the Eastern Connecticut Conference championship game versus Stonington. Rowe was named MVP in East Lyme’s 11th straight ECC title game victory.
Patrick Devaney (MH) – Shelton Boys Volleyball
The senior captained his team to an incredible comeback—a five-set (15-25, 15-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-13) Southern Connecticut Conference championship triumph over Cheshire. Patrick Devaney led his team with 21 kills. He also had four blocks and five digs. The Gaels lost the first two sets, but won the final three to knock off 19-1.
